The "Reepschlägerhaus" in Wedel, built in 1758 as a craftsman's house for rope makers, who made ropes for tall ships, was used until 1964 according to its purpose. The last inhabitants, the brothers Carl and Louis Warncke, could scarcely live on their occupation as ropemakers. With the death of L. Warncke in 1964, the era of ropemaking ended. Today the house is used as a tearoom and gallery for cultural events - such as exhibitions, concerts and readings. The former innkeeper, Werner Wietek, has transformed the old Reeperbahn in many years into a beautiful garden, which invites to a relaxing stay.
